SHELL IN LINUX || SHELL OF LINUX || WHAT IS A SHELL?


SHELL

1. Shell acts as an interface between user and kernel.
2. When a user logs in, the log_in program checks the username and password and starts another program called the shell.
3. The shell is a Command Line Interface (CLI) which interprets commands that the user typed in and arranges for it to be carried out.
4. The shell is both an interactive commamding language and a scripting language to control the execution of the system user shell script.
5. Shell provides filename, piping, wildcard, command substituition, variables, condition-testing and iteration.
